Workshop Optical Design

In this hands-on workshop you will learn the basics of optical design for imaging systems. (i) The course starts with a short overview of the working principles and the user interface of ZEMAX, a software package used by many professional optical designers worldwide. (ii) After the basic introduction we will present a few examples of optical systems which can be modeled and analyzed in ZEMAX, e.g. a Cassegrain telescope, a zoom objective and a spectrometer. (iii) As a final exercise, in groups of 2 persons, you will design an achromatic and an aspherical lens yourselves. For each group a notebook with ZEMAX will be made available throughout the whole session.
